Position Summary

Senior Professional, Chemical Engineering will elevate product quality and drive strategic chemical and sustainability projects from concept to manufacturing space. You are going to apply the methodology of design of the experiment with solid data analysis, the capability to draw conclusions and provide corresponding resolutions to solve development and manufacturing issues. You will act as a functional expert in bottom component technology within the product development, engineering costing and account teams during the development phase to identify and alleviate potential manufacturing issues, driving validation of cutting-edge technology to confirm manufacturing readiness. 

You are comfortable working in an ambiguous situation, providing a solution path to the problem, and leading the elevation of the factory’s partner’s capabilities, including new chemical facility ramp-up while ensuring consistent quality. Snr Prof. Chemical Engineering is part of the APAC sourcing team that works closely with our footwear cross-functional teams and transitions new technologies, materials, and manufacturing processes to create the world’s best athletic footwear.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Serves as a Chemical expert with advanced capability and superior understanding of technologies and chemistries including polymers, rubbers, EVA, plastics, fabrics, leathers, polyurethane, adhesives, hotmelt films, inks & paints, outsoles, midsoles, chemically related shoe manufacturing processes, all materials used in shoe manufacturing.
  • Acts as an expert resource within the manufacturing locations during the development, commercialization, and manufacturing phase to identify and resolve issues in manufacturing, process, chemical, costing, and sustainability. Be able to point out and objectively discuss and present the ‘best way’ to move forward despite dissenting opinions.
  • Collaborates with the Lo Account Managers and Engineers on a regular basis to develop and lead the establishment of supporting technical process documentation such as best practices, functional standards, process templates, and formulations. 
  • Conducts regular walkthroughs of the Development Centers and factories to ensure the implementation of the different initiatives on process efficiencies, quality, and performance. Participates and leads in the regular monitoring or audit of the manufacturing processes. 
  • Lead, executes, and manage new process introduction, trials, and validation to support local and global project goals and timelines. Collects, monitors, and analyzes data on project performance and provide feedback, reports, and forecasts to stakeholders for use in supporting value-based decisions.
  • Documents and communicates cross-categorical initiatives, best practices, and standards to account managers, development Directors, and engineering on a regular basis. 
  • Presents concepts and solutions: Clearly and concisely communicates the knowledge required to transition work into a concrete process or product improvements. 

Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)

  • Fluent in written and verbal English and Indonesian
  • Footwear experience preferred; Experience in other related industries like tires, polyurethane, plastics manufacturing, etc. may also be considered.
  • Strong problem solving, data analysis, and communication skills.
  • Curious, resourceful and strong motivation to drive for continuous improvement.
  • Ability to be part of complex initiatives and project teams.
  • Passion for sustainability and continuous improvement.
  • Experience with data analysis using Excel and familiar with the design of experiments.

Education And / Or Experience

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in footwear manufacturing chemical experience.
  • Minimum bachelor’s in chemical engineering, Chemistry, Polymers, or relevant field
