Position Summary

The aim of this role is to provide dedicated and broad range of legal support on a variety of commercial functions and day-to-day operational matters and all aspects of current business law and legislative changes, to the fast growing and expanding business in south APAC, which is one of the important growth energy of Under Armour, so as to ensure consistently suited legal capacity and efficient legal support to the business and enable the business growth in one side, and mitigate all legal risks associated therein, and make sure the operation and dealings or transactions with customers do not breach any laws or put Under Armour under any unwanted or unexpected liabilities.

This role is a critical member of Under Armour South APAC leadership, required to work closely with the APAC region and Global HQ legal team, advising on a variety of areas to support UA’s south APAC business, predominantly regarding drafting, negotiating, and managing variety of commercial contracts, advising and collaborating on data and privacy issues, handling and managing any incidents within south APAC. Reporting to the Sr. Director, Legal Counsel of APAC, he/she will be an integral member of the Legal team. In addition, he/she would be the primary Legal contact window to the business. He/she will also be expected to be comfortable assisting the Legal team on other matters as necessary based on capacity and resource requirements.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Be the member and trusted advisor of Under Armour South-APAC leadership team
  • Collaborating with Under Armour region, global team and external counsels as necessary, to provide legal analysis and advice to UA South-APAC business on various day-to-day operation, commercial initiatives, business expansion, marketing campaigns and to serve as a primary contact point for any other legal matters and further spot the issues and engage relevant stakeholders from region or global to enable business growth and goals
  • Draft, review, negotiate and manage a wide variety of commercial agreements for each country/business functions of UA South-APAC, particularly upon commercial leases, distribution/wholesale or other B2B partnership, penetrating e-comm marketplaces, licensing, marketing professional service or sponsorship relationship, store development and retail operation related agreements, terms and conditions, statement, or other legal documents
  • Review and advise on rules, communications or other terms and conditions of campaigns, events or communications
  • Develop, maintain and update various bilingual template of contracts or other legal documents for daily business operation needs to continue explore opportunities of efficiency
  • Actively manage and contribute assets to the internal legal knowledge management (such as templates, quick guides, local new laws/policies, etc.)
  • Work and collaborate with Under Armour region and global team on managing the resolution of legal disputes
  • Manage legal budget and external firms
  • Monitor and provide guidance regarding applicable new and developing rules and regulations, assessing and advising on other legal risks affecting the south-APAC and advising on internal policies and procedures, and/or provide commercially driven legal solutions
  • Develop, localize and tailor training materials and conduct the trainings for internal business partners on relevant skills and areas of law
  • Collaborate closely with the Under Armour APAC Region and Global legal organization, and to provide support and assist on projects, initiatives, and matters
  • Assist in and provide other support as assigned

Education And / Or Experience

  • Bachelor or above in law from a reputable law school
  • 7-plus years' experience in reputable law firm and/or MNCs, including minimum 3 years of general commercial contract drafting and negotiation experience
  • Bar of Singapore, and any other Jurisdiction of southeast Asia would be a plus
  • Familiarity with legal issues impacting retail, real property leasing, data privacy, marketing requirements, commercial contracts, franchise operation, international contracts. The level of knowledge required proficient
  • Prefer experience in retail, sports or apparel industry is a plus
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Travelling within APAC may be required
