Position Summary

Under Armour is moving forward with its digital and virtual transformation initiative to streamline both engineering and aesthetic functions cross-divisionally. This specific role, 3D Virtual Materials Analyst, is a step forward of this initiative and will focus on specifying, executing, implementing, and scaling up the Materials Virtualization Strategy. 

Near-term, that strategy will focus on continually building and improving the Virtual Materials Library to support the cross-functional Digital Product Creation process; but the long-term goal is to further develop tools and processes to enable UA to engineer textiles digitally via predictive and data-driven virtual models prior to realization. 

Not only will this enable a more efficient and sustainable method of engineering textiles, but it will also enable more fine-tuning of textile performance to make all athletes better.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Work with Materials and Digital Product teams to create and improve the virtual material toolkit seasonally to support the broader product creation process
  • Conduct materials testing in innovation lab and convert test results to be 3D-ready 
  • Work with cross-functional teams to conduct post-production analysis and instrumental tests to improve virtual accuracy, and identify the trustworthy aspects of 3D to support virtual fitting 
  • Communicate, and collaborate with global Tier I, II, and III suppliers to facilitate virtual material creation and application throughout the supply chain
  • Work with external R&D partners to collect relevant textile data that will enable predictive engineering on the long-term virtualization roadmap
  • Explore and build the path from virtual to manufacturing; understand capabilities of knit programs to build production ready virtual materials 
  • Research, explore, identify new approaches, tools, and opportunities that can improve the existing process

Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)

  • Extensive knowledge or experience of textile materials and the following principles:
    • Understanding of textiles from fiber to yarn to textile construction; understanding of basic textile testing
    • Excellent aesthetic sense and creativity
    • Experience using either design or engineering software involving virtual textiles and/or textile characteristics
    • Knowledge of apparel constructions
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; being able to communicate with global teammates and partners, including but not limit to meeting facilitation and presentations
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a diverse group within the entire organization

Education And / Or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Apparel, Textiles, Materials Manufacturing, Design (Apparel), or related field
  • 0-2 years’ experience

Other Requirements

  • Proficient in Adobe Suite, especially Illustrator and Photoshop
  • 3D experience is strongly preferred (such as CLO, Browzwear, Keyshot or others)
  • Knowledge in knitting program, SHIMA SEIKI/STOLL, will be a plus.
