Position Summary

The Lead Copywriter is a masterful storyteller on Under Armour’s EMEA Marketing Team who is motivated and energized by the power of sport and training. The Lead Copywriter’s creative work needs to carry the passion and the power to help inspire the very best in human performance.

The Lead Copywriter is obsessed with athletes, attitude, and authenticity at every customer touchpoint, especially digital. This versatile storyteller is also driven and unrelenting in the face of the challenges that balancing big projects and tight deadlines bring.

With the Sr Manager Creative of EMEA, the Lead Copywriter manages and guides teams to create the best expression of UA’s brand voice across all of Under Armour’s marketing and advertising content for the entire EMEA region (attract to convert)

This individual must be skilled with many kinds of writing, from campaign concepting to social copy narratives, and he/she will be tasked to oversee and manage the translation & transcreation process ensuring the UA brand voice is integrated throughout the consumer journey.

This effort includes partnering with art directors, agencies, and other writers to develop transformative storytelling executions and experiences that strengthen the brand’s emotional connection with the Focused Performer within the EMEA region. Key collaboration in this role is the visibility it provides back to the Global Copy Team to ensure cohesive storytelling across all channels/touchpoints. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

The Lead Copywriter receives guidance to develop copy creative that aligns to business/marketing’s strategic goals from marketing briefs and collaborates with the Creative Director/Global Copy Director, Copywriters, Designers, as well as Project Managers (as it pertains to scheduling).

The Lead Copywriter is expected to work independently and collaboratively. The responsibilities of the role should be self-project-managed and completed with an eye on broader team strategies/objectives.

Write, lead, and manage the development of on-brand copy and translations (informed by our Brand Vision, Mission, and Values) across all digital, social, web, experiential, and print marketing platforms. This includes meeting with partners to align on marketing/creative strategy, as well as collaborating with creative and cross-functional partners.

  • Play a lead role in developing operating principles where local teams can benefit from regional resources and thus creating efficiencies, consistency, and service across the region, uplifting the quality of the creative assets.

  • Create and deliver presentations to pitch new concepts.

Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)


  • Minimum of 8 years' of communications and/or copywriting/content development experience.

  • Experience writing copy across digital channels and developing original campaign concepts are essential.

  • Experience in copy translation & transcreation 

  • The Lead Copywriter must be a writer with strong fundamental skills as well as demonstrated creative capabilities.

  • A high level of mastery is expected in the areas of strategic thinking, team leadership/influence, and a self-directed approach to individual/team project management.


  • Ability to create positioning and creative communications strategies based on seasonal big stories and transform those strategies into copy for all marketing vehicles.

  • Be an advocate for the brand and an expert on our products—translate that understanding into concepts and actionable sales materials/consumer experiences.

  • Commitment to build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external partners.

  • Ability to think strategically, manage many tasks at once, and deliver high-quality output every time, on time.

  • Willingness to go the extra mile to get the work done and meet commitments made to others (reliability and accountability).

Education And / Or Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in Advertising, Writing, Marketing, or equivalent.

  • Commitment to developing personal leadership skills and helping regional teams and/or agencies to ensure brand expectations are met

  • Speaks multiple languages (English & German at least)  

  • Excellent verbal, written, communication, and presentation skills.           

  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and collaboration skills.

  • Microsoft Office and Mac platform proficiency.

  • Travel Requirements:    5%

Other Requirements

The Lead Copywriter will operate in a multi-language market and therefore must be able to understand cultural complexity within languages. Speaking multiple languages is preferred. English is a must, German in addition preferred.
