Purpose of Role

We are seeking a visionary Lead Environmental Designer to shape how our brand comes to life in retail environments around the world. This role blends creativity, spatial storytelling, and architectural expertise to craft immersive, emotionally resonant spaces that embody our brand at every touchpoint.

Reporting to the Head of Global Retail Brand Creative, you will lead the 3D and environmental design vision for retail—ranging from flagship concepts and pop-ups to permanent store environments and fixture systems. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional partners across store development, visual merchandising, and marketing to ensure every spatial expression reflects our creative intent and elevates the consumer journey.

Your Impact

  • Lead the creative development of environmental design concepts that express the brand in physical retail spaces.
  • Translate brand strategy into innovative 3D experiences, from sketches and mood boards to design intent packages.
  • Partner with internal teams and external agencies to develop scalable retail concepts and seasonal activations.
  • Create and iterate designs ensuring brand excellence and feasibility.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners in architecture, production, and store design to align creative vision with execution.
  • Oversee environmental storytelling, materials, and finishes to ensure cohesive brand expression.
  • Stay informed on design trends, materials innovation, and global retail benchmarks.
  • Mentor junior designers and help establish environmental design standards within the Global Retail Creative team.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in environmental, retail, or experiential design roles.
  • Proven experience designing 3D environments and architectural concepts for global retail or experiential brands.
  • Proficiency in SketchUp, Rhino, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, and related visualization tools.
  • Strong understanding of spatial design, materiality, and consumer behavior in physical environments.
  • Ability to develop design systems that balance creativity, scalability, and operational feasibility.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to sell a creative vision to stakeholders.

 

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience working with global lifestyle, sportswear, or fashion brands.
  • Knowledge of fabrication processes, retail rollouts, and environmental graphics.
  • Experience collaborating with agency partners and production vendors globally.

Workplace Location

  • Location: This individual must reside within commuting distance from our Baltimore HQ office.
  • Work Schedule: This role follows a hybrid work schedule, requiring 4 days in-office per week.

Base Compensation

 $87,364.60 - $120,126.33 USD

Most new hires fall within this range and have the opportunity to earn more over time. Initial placement within the salary range, however, is based on an individual's relevant knowledge, skills and experience for the position. UA is committed to helping our teammates succeed and advance in their careers. Base salary is only one component of our competitive Total Rewards package.
