Position Summary

The Creative Lead (COPY) is a masterful storyteller on Under Armour’s America’s creative team who is motivated and energized by the power of sport. The Creative Lead’s creative work needs to carry the passion of the world’s greatest athletes—from this generation and the next—and the power to help inspire the very best in human performance.


The Creative Lead is obsessed with athletes, attitude, authenticity, and all things digital, at every customer touchpoint. This versatile storyteller is also driven and unrelenting in the face of the challenges that balancing big projects and tight deadlines bring. Creative Lead is responsible for driving a given project. The Creative Lead will work closely with multiple stakeholders from marketing and creative leadership to operational and production partners streamlining creative development, ensuring the brand vision executes successfully.


Under the Creative Director, the Creative Lead (COPY) creates the best expression of UA’s brand voice across all of Under Armour’s marketing and advertising content to attract, engage, and convert our target demographic, which we call the Focused Performer. This individual must be skilled with many kinds of writing. This effort is cross-category and is, at times, consultative in nature. It includes partnering with art directors, and designers to develop transformative storytelling executions and experiences that strengthen the brand’s emotional connection with the Focused Performer.


This role ensures alignment on Global Copy Standards across all internal teams and outsourced agencies. This role consults on top-tier Style Guides, product naming hierarchies, channel initiatives that may have no Brand Marketing support such as regionally driven product stories or seasonal stories (Holiday, Back To School, etc.), as well as in-store customer experiences (from Commercial Store Concepts to Pop-Up Shops). This role collaborates closely with all other Copywriters and Designers across every category and in all regions to help optimize storytelling in retail and digital executions/experiences.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsibility over Brand and Seasonal Creative in our DTC, wholesale and OMNI channels for the region
  • Utilize regional and global data to elevate consumer experiences through copy
  • Collaborate with global creative/marketing/ops teams to ensure regional creative/marketing/ops alignment
  • Create with versatility and constantly seek new and innovative ways to elevate consumer experience
  • Work collaboratively with the Creative Director, agency partners, external resources, copy, category partners to produce brand relevant consumer experiences that reflect and elevate brand’s DNA and standards.

Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)

  • Bilingual – English / Spanish
  • Ability to understand LATAM nuances within sport space
  • Ability to create positioning and creative communications strategies based on seasonal big stories, and transform those strategies into copy for all marketing vehicles
  • Be an advocate for the brand and an expert on our products—translate that understanding into concepts and actionable sales materials/ consumer experiences
  • Commitment to build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external partners
  • Ability to think strategically, manage many tasks at once, and deliver high-quality output every time, on time
  • Willingness to go the extra mile to get the work done and meet commitments made to others (reliability and accountability)
  • Support a test-and-learn environment by creating messaging that is A/B tested for efficacy and impact
  • A firm understanding of search engine optimization and SEO keyword principles to aid in natural and paid search efforts
  • Requires samples of work submitted with resume and salary history [Examples: Digital/print ads, implemented campaigns, email marketing, direct mail, POP, online content/Ecommerce site reference (URLs)]
  • Commitment to developing personal leadership skills and helping direct reports and/or writers at more junior job levels enrich their skills
  • Excellent verbal, written, communication, and presentation skills              
  • Excellent leadership, organization, and collaboration skills
  • Microsoft Office and Mac platform proficiency

Education And / Or Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Minimum of 5 years of communications and/or writing/content development experience.
  • Experience writing copy across digital channels is a MUST, and experience with retail/e-commerce is a strong plus.

Other Requirements

  • Location: This individual must reside within commuting distance from our global headquarters in Baltimore, MD.
  • Return To Work Designation: 2 days a week in-office, the remainder of work week remote.
  • Travel: 0-5%
