Position Summary

The Director of Accounts Payable will be responsible for driving best practices for all accounts payable teammates around the globe. In this role, the Director of Accounts Payable is responsible for the overall strategic planning, organization of the team, along with overseeing all accounts payable activities with a focus to streamline processes across the entire organization. This position has direct responsibility for the Americas region as well as corporate oversight for all global accounts payables. This position is hands-on and works closely with accounts payable staff as well as internal and external business partners to ensure accurate, efficient, and effective operations. To be successful, this position must possess strong leadership and problem-solving skills as well as the ability to work in teams and use data analytics to drive decisions and process optimization. The Director of Accounts Payable should possess a deep understanding of today's dynamic payments environment, best practices, and US GAAP.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain standardized accounts payables practices
  • Partner with Regional Managers to implement best practices and drives initiatives to improve productivity and department performance
  • Responsible for ensuring timeliness and accuracy of accounts payable deliverables, including but not limited to the monthly close and associated financial reporting activities
  • Oversees all accounts payable activities and drives strategy for streamlining activities and measuring the team's performance
  • Ensures timely and accurate processing of annual 1099 forms
  • Directs the development and reporting on performance metrics to measure staff performance and the accuracy and timeliness of processed transactions
  • Develop, maintain, and measure core accounts payable KPIs to ensure appropriate targeted results to support company financial targets and objectives
  • Identify process inefficiencies and implements remediation to strengthen control environment and develop best-in-class process using system automation and relevant tools
  • Develop effective relationships with all relevant internal and external customers to share best practices and better understand, communicate, and appropriately recommend action considering company/business-specific risks
  • Provide strong leadership support to mentor, train, motivate, develop and coach a team of employees in accordance with accounts payable policies, procedures, and best practices to continue to build and develop a best-in-class operation
  • Leads corporate accounts payable initiatives, strategy, and optimization
  • Ensures proper reporting is in place to monitor activity on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis
  • Work closely with other internal departments to proactively manage and resolve business and operational issues in an innovative, efficient, and effective manner while ensuring proper compliance with internal controls
  • Develop strong working relationships within the business and with our third-party partners and business customers
  • Provide direction on prioritization to ensure all deliverables are met within designated timeframes
  • Lead by example, be ready and willing to jump into any other activities that may warrant timely attention and resolution

Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)

  • Experience and understanding of accounting procedures and controls environment are critical
  • Proven decision-making negotiation skills
  • Experience in leading meetings and delivering financial and analytical data
  • Proactive, results-oriented, sense of urgency, high level of energy, enthusiasm, and passion
  • Proven ability to identify gaps and then develop and implement policies and procedures to adequately mitigate them
  • Excellent communicator and possess the ability to bring people with different points of view together to achieve common goals
  • Ability to work closely with and/or Lead team members on projects that involves standardized systems and processes

Education And / Or Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Minimum of 12+ years of accounts payable experience, ideally in a large global company
  • Experience utilizing SAP and Ariba required
  • Knowledgeable in Power BI and Microsoft Office Suite

Other Requirements

  • Location: This individual must reside within commuting distance from our global headquarters in Baltimore, MD
  • Work-Life Integration Designation: One (1) day a week in-office, the remainder of work week remote at home
