Position Summary

The Head of Global Privacy will have responsibility for leading Under Armour’s Global Privacy Program, including setting the global strategy, designing, developing, and implementing privacy policies and procedures, and providing guidance to the business, IT and marketing teams to develop and scale privacy-by-design strategies and ensure compliance with global privacy laws and regulation. You will lead and grow a  team of lawyers and business partners to support Under Armour’s ongoing digital transformation. You will also play a critical role in helping to lead data breach and incident response efforts and support multi-agency regulatory and consumer group inquiries.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead and grow a high impact team engaged throughout the business on global privacy requirements, consumer trust, ethical use of data, and data protection issues
  • Partner closely with Engineering, Cybersecurity, Sales and Marketing, and other teams to assess potential data and privacy risks and regulatory controls and governance across the enterprise, by developing and implementing privacy-by-design strategies
  • Enhance, develop and drive global privacy strategies to continue to embed privacy and data ethics into Under Armour’s culture, including driving data awareness throughout the organization
  • Develop strategies for implementing improvements to data management, data governance, controls, privacy management, and data utility
  • Develop and maintain effective policies, procedures, and documentation to demonstrate compliance with the obligations and risks of maintaining, sharing, and using sensitive data
  • Partner with Cybersecurity and Data Architecture teams to establish appropriate frameworks to ensure that data risks are appropriately recognized, prioritized, mitigated, and controlled
  • Oversee Under Armour’s third-party compliance program that ensures third-party relationships adhere to appropriate privacy policies and regulations for hosting, storing, and transmitting Under Armour teammate, consumer, and user data.
  • Serve as a key partner in oversight of our Data Incident Response team
  • Advise the executive management team on matters related to data privacy
  • Implement solutions to specific prioritized problems to ensure that personal data is well managed, protected, and usable for critical business objectives


Supervisory Responsibilities:  
This role oversees a number of direct reports and manages outside consulting support. This role will have immediate responsibility for building the global privacy team through local hires within the Company’s Asia-Pacific and European regions.

Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)

  • Experience developing a global privacy strategy
  • Experience working closely with code developers and technical staff with general awareness of the technical challenges associated with managing and using personal data
  • A team mindset, with a proven ability to build effective working relationships and credibility without formal reporting lines
  • Experience managing a global team preferred
  • Experience drafting and implementing policies and guidance documents and developing scalable processes
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks, take action, and provide clear direction
  • Ability to translate complex legal and regulatory information in concise, simple, easy to understand terms in order to provide pragmatic advice and practical solutions that can be operationalized
  • Operates with the highest integrity 

Education And / Or Experience

  • 10+ years of combined experience in law firms, governmental agencies, consulting, or in-house legal departments, with a minimum of five (5) years serving in a leadership role within a global privacy program required; a strong experience in consumer data use preferred
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Extensive knowledge of US, UK/EU, and other privacy laws across the globe

Other Requirements

  • lAPP Certifications including CIPP/US or CIPP/E. CIPT or CIPM a plus
  • JD strongly preferred, with a license and active membership to practice in at least one U.S. state
