Purpose of Role

We are hiring for a developer role on Footwear Innovation Team to expand our opportunity to run more innovations in Asia with higher efficiency and effectiveness. The role of Lead, Footwear Development, Innovation will be a pioneer in exploring latest technologies, materials, and processes in China and APAC region for footwear. This role will also heavily work with regional Innovation partners, T1 factories and T2, T3 suppliers included, to create and realize footwear applications with new materials, processes, methods-of-making and any other innovations inside and outside the industry. This role will need to think and act with an open mind, facilitate teamwork with partners internally and externally all over the globe. A key part of being successful in this role, is to enhance working relationships and momentum with key Innovation partners while keeping the aim at company’s long-term market growth. To achieve the job requirements, this person needs to be a team player with excellent communication and problem-solving skills to lead complex projects with diverse team members from different function teams, companies, and industries.

Your Impact

  • Collaborate with Footwear Innovation team in headquarter to initiate, develop, test, and verify new technologies for all product categories. Meet or exceed UA’s high-performance product and sustainability standards.
  • Drive Innovation projects with factory partners in Asia and organize and support sample making. Make testing plan and organize test result to support data-driven decision making.
  • Work interactively with factory partners and suppliers to innovate new materials, chemical compounds, footwear constructions and manufacturing processes to create performance products that can contribute to market growth.
  • Review specifications, process, cost, and potential for scale-up of new footwear innovations. Partner with supply chain team, factories, and suppliers to transition new technologies to Development/Production and provide necessary supports to ensure successful commercialization.
  • Continuously refine materials, construction, and processes of existing and new footwear technologies to broaden our opportunity across categories.
  • Act as technology and project transition partner for Inline Development, with excellent documentation and storytelling.
  • Regularly visit with suppliers and vendors, attend trade shows to explore new ideas and solutions inside and outside the industry to identify potential opportunities for future innovation.
  • Onboard new suppliers partnered with UA Innovation. Bridge out-of-industry expertise from suppliers with footwear fundamentals and UA standards


  • Good understanding of footwear material, construction, processing, and machinery.
  • Able to manage complex footwear projects involving engineering, tooling, costing, new materials and chemical compounds and machinery.
  • Capable of understanding footwear technical packages and translating into action plans for factories and suppliers.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills. Able to facilitate teamwork across UA functions, factories, and suppliers, manage partnership without compromising UA’s long-term benefits.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills. Able to lead team discussion and action plan toward solutions efficiently and effectively.
  • Able to explore new options and solutions inside and outside the industry with an open mind while focusing on possibility of commercialization.
  • Excellent English writing and speaking to organize and communicate daily tasks via email and conference call. Comfortable with presenting to native English speakers.
  • Knowledge in processing technology and machinery is preferred.
