Purpose of Role

Under Armour’s Innovation Team is looking for an energetic, motivated Footwear Innovation Designer II, with exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to design both soft goods and hard goods. You will join a diverse and dynamic group of artists and engineers who introduce and drive new technology and innovation to all Business Units within Under Armour.  As the Designer, you will primarily focus on footwear, however you will have opportunities to influence apparel and accessories as well. We expect you to touch all parts of the brand, and to have access to the latest technologies and sports science. Your Impact

  • Work on product as part of a highly functional, collaborative team, not in a silo; be involved from concept through transition to Inline.
  • Continuously learn and share new digital and AI based creative tools, 3D modeling techniques and workflows. This is a 3D first Design position
  • Be curious, always. Ask yourself how you can make Under Armour the best performance athletic product company on the planet.
  • Talk to athletes from the amateur to the world’s best. Dig for insights that set UA product apart from our competition. Find out what athletes want or need by building close relationships over time.
  • Provide product conceptualization in 2D and 3D form, heavy utilization of modern workflows.  Drive excitement for fresh design and learn to translate amazing design concepts into real products.
  • Collaborate on a variety of footwear related projects pushing design expression and level of detail executions we could not comprehend as possible now. Come to the team with a sharp eye for design and expression.
  • Liaise with Inline design, development and marketing to express concepts and build ownership.
  • Travel to suppliers and factories to implement ground-breaking product and build an idea network.
  • Build and modify product to express concepts and try new ideas. Sample your ideas in our Concept Creation Center.
  • Partner with Innovation Development and Material Science to give shape to new materials and ways of making.
  • Be accountable, work with transparency and have a sense of urgency. Innovation moves quickly.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with typically 5 years of relevant experience or Master's degree with typically 3 years of relevant experience or typically 9 years of relevant work experience without degree.
  • Passion every day to design compelling and cutting-edge product with a specific focus in footwear.
  • Solid understanding of footwear design, construction and materials.
  • Should be versed in new digital creation tools and fluid in file conversions and methods of prototyping.
  • A passion for athletic performance and for problem solving!
  • Desire and ability to take risks, and to take responsibility for building relationships.
  • Expert ability to express concepts and ideas through 3D visualization technologies
  • Must be creative, detail oriented, able to prioritize tasks and work under pressure to successfully meet multiple deadlines.
  • 3D modeling tools, nurbs or sub-d modeling, AI generation workflows, 3D Printing. 
  • Model making abilities are a big plus.

Workplace Location

  • Location: This individual must reside within commuting distance from our Portland, Oregon office.
  • Work Schedule: This role follows a hybrid work schedule, requiring 4 days in-office per week. 
  • Travel: 10%

Base Compensation

$90,387.44-$112,984.30 USD

Most new hires fall within this range and have the opportunity to earn more over time. Initial placement within the salary range, however, is based on an individual's relevant knowledge, skills and experience for the position. UA is committed to helping our teammates succeed and advance in their careers. Base salary is only one component of our competitive Total Rewards package.
