Purpose of Role
Reporting to the Director, Apparel Development for Taiwan, the Manager, Apparel Development will be responsible for supporting vendor development and project planning of Under Armour’s apparel development strategy for the APAC region. This role will support the development, planning, scheduling and executing project plans from design development to production garment. The Manager, Apparel Development role serves as a trusted advisor within the Apparel Development Team.
Your Impact
- Responsible for vendor development/project management, planning, scheduling and executing to comply with the development strategy.
- Develop and lead vendor training programs.
- Communicate with internal and external business partners on project plans.
- Facilitate one or more product categories from design development to production garment.
- Monitor development calendar dates and start of production timelines and influence partners to hit key deadlines.
- Work effectively with cross-functional partners. Must be able to successfully problem solve buy-ready, design, costing, quality, and delivery issues.
- Build and present product presentations related to product development.
- Responsible for training, career development and monitoring performance of direct reports.
Qualifications
- Significant experience and knowledge of apparel constructions, stitching, and assembly, material construction and properties, costing, pattern making, embroidery, screen printing, and other apparel manufacturing methods.
- Effective communicator with ability to manage multiple projects within overlapping seasons, and with a variety of time horizons.
- Ability to assess complex situations and analyze data to make judgements and recommend solutions.
- Ability to identify opportunities in processes and drive for optimization.
- Proven capabilities in executing strategic business objectives and problem solving with a high level of accountability.
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Significant experience and knowledge of apparel constructions, stitching, and assembly, material construction and properties, costing, pattern making, embroidery, screen printing, and other apparel manufacturing methods.
- Advanced understanding of materials and trims for category end use and able to give the direction when the internal or external business partner has the product issues.
- Bachelor’s degree in fashion design or related field.
- 7+ years of in technical design or product/apparel development experience and factory experience required.
- Management experience required.
- Superior written and verbal communication skills in English; must be able to lead product presentations in a clear, concise, and engaging manner.
- Proficient in Adobe Illustrator, a PLM system, Excel and Gerber or Optitex PDS.
- Advanced 2D patternmaking skills; must have on the job experience (classes and/or theory does not qualify)
- 3D pattern experience preferred.
- Experience at multinational corporations in apparel company is a plus.
